Hi, I am classified as a Jazz Dj. I am a radio conductor, presenter, and teacher. I was born in Vicenza, in Veneto, Italy, in a large family. My father was a banking executive who raised me with bread and jazz. Since adolescence, I have cultivated my family passion for art.
Music - my mother, Enza, studied opera singing, and my brother Antonio graduated in piano. Acting - my grandfather Giuseppe Girgenti was an actor in the 1920s. Photography - grandfather Stefano Meli was a photographer in Sicily in the 1920s and opened one of the first studios in Palermo. Drawing (my mother is a painter and my brother, Massimo, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo). I studied flute at the V. Bellini Conservatory in Palermo, in the class of Maestro Angelo Faja (renowned flutist and conductor of an orchestra). I recently took up the study of the flute, with the Teacher Lavinia Garlisi. I completed my classical studies and the knowledge of languages at the TS Eliot Private Institute under the teaching direction of the Spatafora family, where I graduated from high school.
I am the sixth of seven children and after school I decided to immediately enter the world of work, growing professionally in the Marketing Department of Johnson & Johnson Italy. From Palermo, where I lived with my family of origin, I moved to Rome for about ten years. I periodically followed the seminars on sales techniques and NLP, held in the company by professors from the Luigi Bocconi Commercial University, in Milan. In 2000 I gave up my commercial work to devote myself entirely to the deepening of photography. I publish reportage books and start a small photo studio.
In April 2010 I started working as a radio host, already started back in 1980. I participated, still as a radio host, in the creation of the project "Action Night Live". It was an extension of my jazz music program, with live performances of local jazz artists (live from the Underground Music Club of Palermo). After various appearances and training of young voices in radio broadcasting, in local radio stations, I returned to my first station, Radio In 102 (where I was already conducting "Meeting", a jazz music program in the 1980s). At the end of 2013, I created a new format "By Night Jazz" where I dedicated my commitment to training, information, and sharing of local, national and international jazz artists. A radio format that I have paired with one of my students, Antonella Grillo. Even today, By Night Jazz, plays on this radio, proposing the most beautiful jazz playlists of those years.
I got a remarkable success and I was involved as Artistic Director in the local organization of International Jazz Day, since 2014. For my commitment, I received a letter of praise directly from Herbie Hancock (which you can find on the About page). Also in the same year, I started as a presenter. My goal was to continue spreading and supporting jazz artists outside the radio environment. My presentations have seen me present in the small Cultural Associations of my city, in the big publishing houses (Feltrinelli), in the RAI Auditorium (Dual Force 4et - Comar Edizioni Musicali), and in the presentation of concerts in the theater: Lucia Garcia 5et (Theater Jolly Palermo), Pippo Ardini Award (Italian Radio Television Auditorium, Palermo) - Winter Jazz Festival (Teatro Garibaldi Enna).
Here I like to remember the guests I had the pleasure of presenting: Louis Hohl (flutist for Stevie Wonder - USA), Marita Pauli (Germany), Monica Chapman (Canada), The Airborne (USA), Vadim Tikhonov (Russia), Dave Panico (USA), Petar Zanki and Ivonne BM (Germany), Tina E. Clark (USA), Kike Goya (Peru), Gabriela Leal (Mexico), Randy Corinthian (USA), Klaus Savoldi Bellavitis (USA), Lino Patruno and many others Italian artists with whom I still maintain a great friendship.
From March 2015 I am The Brass Radio Station Manager, where I share 30 years of passion and notes. Thanks to my staff, I can continue to share my great passion for the show and for jazz. I teach at The Brass Group Foundation's Popular Music School. I'm a professor of phonetics and diction. I also created workshops: Reading, Radio Conduction Techniques, Creative Writing.
Are you still there? Then you are welcome, and ... write to me!
