Fate Marable 1880

Pianista e direttore d’orchestra statunitense (Paducah, Kentucky, 2.12.1880 – St Louis, Missouri, 1947). Sua madre gli insegna a suonare il pianoforte. A diciassette anni si imbarca per suonare su una riverboat. A bordo di questi grandi battelli a ruote in navigazione nel Mississippi si svilupperà la maggior parte della sua carriera; dal 1917 e per numerosi anni egli dirige, per il divertimento dei passeggeri della Streckfus Line, la sua Kentucky Jazz Band. Numerosi musicisti che saranno famosi in seguito hanno fatto parte di una delle sue formazioni: Louis Armstrong, Red Allen, Gene Sedric, Zutty Singleton, Johnny e Baby Dodds, Pops Foster e Jimmy Blanton. Nel 1940 torna a terra e suona a St Louis.
Ha registrato solo due dischi a New Orleans con, fra gli altri, il batterista Zutty Singleton e il trombettista Sidney Desvignes.

American pianist and conductor (Paducah, Kentucky, 2.12.1880 - St Louis, Missouri, 1947). His mother teaches him to play the piano. At seventeen, he embarks to play on a riverboat. Onboard these large-wheeled boats sailing in Mississippi, he will develop most of his career; from 1917 and for many years, he conducted his Kentucky Jazz Band to amuse the passengers of the Streckfus Line. Numerous musicians who will later be famous have been part of one of his formations: Louis Armstrong, Red Allen, Gene Sedric, Zutty Singleton, Johnny, Baby Dodds, Pops Foster, and Jimmy Blanton. In 1940 he returned to land and played in St Louis. He recorded only two records in New Orleans with drummer Zutty Singleton and trumpeter Sidney Desvignes among others.
