Clarinettista, sassofonista e arrangiatore statunitense (Kansas City, Missouri, 7.5.1906 – 8.10.1988) .
[M.R.] Guida all’ascolto:
E. F. Inge was an American clarinet player, saxophonist, and arranger (Kansas City, Missouri, 7.5.1906 - 8.10.1988). After studying music seriously, in 1924, he made his professional debut with George Reynolds, then he played with Dewey Jackson, Arthur Simms, and Bernie Young (late 1928). Inge performed with the McKinney's Cotton Pickers (1930-31) AND WITH Don Redman until 1939. From 1940 to 1943, he played with Andy Kirk to replace Don Byas. He conducts his orchestra in Cleveland (1945), and in the 1950s and 1960s, he moved to Buffalo with his group.
At the beginning of the 1930s, he appears as a "modern" improviser influenced perhaps by Omer Simeon. He follows Don Redman's harmonic system of arrangements. Above all, the use of the nines and sixths as keynotes of the melodies and for the diatonic scales. Despite boasting a rich discography, he recorded few complete choruses; his speeches are often limited to eight bars. [M.R.] Listening guide: |
