Alto saxophonist and American baritone (St Louis Missouri, 14.12.1913 - Detroit, Michigan, 12.4.1976), brother of Milton and Geroge, trumpeter.

After playing in the 1930s in Detroit, particularly with his brother Milton in Jimmy Raschell's orchestra, he was hired by Jimmy Lunceford from 1937 to 1943. Thus, alongside Willie Smith, Joe Thomas, Dan Grissom, Earl Carruthers, it belonged to that section of saxophones that made an epoch in the history of grand orchestras. After leaving Lunceford, he forms a small group that performs in and around Detroit for several years.

In the early 1950s, together with the pianist Todd Rhodes, he made various tours - also playing the baritone saxophone - through the United States. He was again at the head of his orchestra in Detroit, accompanied by the singer Johnny Ray and organized in the 60s a great formation with the brother of Ernie Wilkins and the trombonist Jimmy Wilkins. In 1975 he went to France with the Sammy Price orchestra. A great deal of ease, a great fluidity, the search for seductive melodic lines favored by a pleasant sonority are the characteristics of the style of Ted Buckner. His solo by Margie (with Lunceford, in 1938) is entirely representative.
