Banjoista e chitarrista statunitense (New Orleans, Louisiana, 17.4.1890 – Los Angeles, California, 17.6.1966).

Dal 1954 vive in California dove si esibisce in particolare con Paul Barbarin (1955), The New Orleans Creole Jazz Band (1959) e The Young Men Of New Orleans (1960). Ha ricevuto il premio All Time All Stars, categoria banjo, conferito dal periodico Record Changer.

American banjoist and guitarist (New Orleans, Louisiana, 17.4.1890 - Los Angeles, California, 17.6.1966). His father, a flutist, and guitarist is his first teacher. He makes his debut at fifteen, working as a plasterer by day and playing at night in a stringed trio that he directs for four years.

Later, he performed full time in the formations of Armand Piron (1909), in the Tuxedo Jazz Band of Kid Ory (1914-16) and on riverboats, with Fate Marable (1917-19), Ed Allen (1920-22), Charlie Creath, then, back in his hometown, with Manuel Perez.

In 1923, in Chicago, he joined the formation of King Oliver, then moved on to those of Jimmie Noone (1924) and Doc Cook (1925-29). He participates in the legendary sessions of Louis Armstrong's Hot Seven (1925-27) and Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers (1926) before retiring to New Orleans (1930) to resume the plastering profession and play episodically with local orchestras.

Since 1954 he has lived in California, where he performs in particular with Paul Barbarin (1955), The New Orleans Creole Jazz Band (1959) and The Young Men Of New Orleans (1960). In 1965 a car accident forced him to stop his business. He dies of leukemia. He received the All Time All Stars award, banjo category, awarded by the periodical Record Changer.

The rhythmic support of St. Cyr is characterized by a highly confident tempo and an exceptional harmonic fullness due to the way he beats chords and makes the strings of his instrument sound. His drive is communicated to the whole orchestra.
