Pianista, trombettista e cantautore statunitense (New York, 7.11.1916 – 3.1.2004).

Ha composto numerosi temi dei quali l più suonato è Oh, Look At Me Now (1941).

American pianist, trumpeter, and songwriter (New York, 11.7.1916 – 1.3.2004). His family, who emigrated from Russia, settled in New York in 1909. He studied the piano and trumpet privately and played in his orchestra, which Irving Goodman, Benny's brother, conducted. At the age of sixteen, he worked at the Roseland Ballroom and became, in 1935, the official pianist of the Famous Door, thus appearing in the Bunny Berigan orchestra.

He plays with Eddie Condon (1936), Joe Marsala (1937), meets Berigan (1938-39), Muggsy Spanier (1939), Tommy Dorsey, with whom he remains until his recall in the army (1942). Initially a trumpeter in a military orchestra, he then takes the direction of a formation that performs in the Pacific. Returns to civilian life in 1946, work with Benny Goodman and Bud Freeman (1947), plays on Broadway in the show Rat Race (1949-50), conducts his quartet at Embers (1951), is part, for a short time, Louis Armstrong's All Stars (1953) and formed several groups in New York (at Embers), Las Vegas (at Sands), San Francisco, Hawaii, and California.

In 1977 he accompanied Bing Crosby to London but had since reduced his business. It can be seen in the film Rat Race (Robert Mulligan, 1960). He has composed numerous themes of which the most played is Oh, Look At Me Now (1941).
Joe Bushkin reconnects to the swing school, to the style of Teddy Wilson and sometimes to that of Art Tatum. Notable for its crystalline touch, sensitivity, and pure fantasy. Sudden trumpet with warmth and delicacy, skilled in using the mute (I Can't Get Started).
