Chitarrista ed arrangiatore statunitense (Kinston, North Carolina, 0.11.1914 – New York, 29.5.985).

American guitarist and arranger (Kinston, North Carolina, 0.11.1914 - New York, 29.5.985). His mother, a piano teacher, gives him his first music lessons. He learned the guitar and made his debut in his hometown with Abe Dunn's orchestra in the early 1930s.

In Philadelphia, he plays with Slim Marshall then, in New York, with Erskine Hawkins, Earl Hines (1942), and saxophonist Bill Johnson. He tours the Far East alongside Oscar Pettiford (1951-52). On his return, he forms a trio that performs in New York clubs.

He plays with Charles Thompson in the Mel Power quintet (1955) and the Modern Jazz Sextet (Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Stitt, John Lewis, 1956). He meets Charles Thompson in the early 1960s and continues his career as a soloist, moving from one group to another.

Skeeter Best's music recalls that of Charlie Christian and Jimmy Raney. He is clear, precise; he does not seek exploit, but rather an emotion, which Best reproduces wonderfully when he plays the blues.
